Most of the sporting activities such as rafting, canyoning, hydrospeed and kayaking take place on the Soča river, whose uniqueness enriches sporting adventures with unforgettable aesthetic pleasures. The emerald green colour of the river and the magical and pristine nature through which it flows give it a touch of the mystical. To us, the locals, it is more than just a river; it symbolises our freedom, pride, and individuality, it is the blood that flows through the veins of this valley. We will gladly help our visitors – that are at the same time the co-owners of this wonder – ride the waves and discover the waterfalls, canyons and rock walls that surround it.

From the magnificent Obsoška pot (Soča Path) that was built by the Triglav National Park Association alongside this beauty one can observe the river from an exterior perspective. The same goes for the mountain biking tours that lead one even deeper into the heart of the mountain world of Bovec. The system of hiking trails takes us from the cold shadows of the valley to the high world of mountains, where red and white round signs, put there by the Slovene Alpine Club, await us promising magnificent views from the peaks, encounters with wild animals and sights of paragliders and birds gliding through the air in harmony.

Even though we are extremely satisfied that Bovec is slowly establishing itself as the leading bidder of outdoor sports and we are glad to be engaged in these activities ourselves, we would also like to point out that besides all the fun one can have here, it is also important to be aware of and embrace nature. Learn how to gaze into this marvellous wild world, to stop and linger sometimes just to observe the birds, the flow of water or a leaf trembling in the summer wind. Elementary nature offers us a chance to go back to our roots. Let's use it!

Bovec is an exceptional starting point for a journey into the world of mountain roads: Vršič, Mangrt, the Učja pass with Krnica and Rezija, the roads leading towards Venetian Slovenia which unravel into a network and which were closed until the Schengen Agreement entered into force. The Soča front: one of the bloodiest episodes of the First World War got its memorial in the Kobarid Museum, dedicated to the Soča Front. This museum was among the finalists for the European Museum of the year prize in 1993. The latest instalment in this story is the Walk of Peace trail that leads past the outdoor war museums from the village of Log pod Mangartom to the Mengore hill above Tolmin. The group 1313 also preserves the memories of this time by staging performances in the Kluže Fortress.
